Local Muscular Endurance
Local Muscular Endurance
The ability to work the muscles for long periods of time at less than maximum effort. The limiting factor for this fitness component is local fatigue largely due to lactic acid build up. Contraction of the muscles causes a block or partial block in the blood supply which can lead to the muscles working anaerobically. Strength is an important component of muscular endurance. It is important in sports such as kayaking and swimming.
Factors affecting local muscular endurance
• Circulation
• Lactic acid tolerance
• Temperature
• Fibre Type
• Intensity of contraction (less than 40%)
